HP ALLBASE/4GL Run-Time Administration Manual

Before You Start

This manual makes some assumptions about you and the equipment you are
using. Before you go any further, you must check that these assumptions
are correct. We have assumed:

   * You have an HP 3000 computer system.

   * You have the MPE/iX operating system installed on the HP 3000
       system.

   * You have HP ALLBASE/4GL installed on the MPE/iX system.

   * You have at least one application installed in the HP ALLBASE/4GL
system, and you are ready to start using the application.

MPE/iX Operating System

HP ALLBASE/4GL works under the MPE/iX operating system. This manual
assumes that MPE/iX has been correctly installed on your HP 3000 system.

This manual also assumes that you are familiar with the rudiments of the
MPE/iX operating system, although it does not assume any substantial
depth of knowledge. If you are not familiar with the basic concepts of
MPE/iX, you will find that reading the introductory chapters of the
manuals supplied with the MPE/iX system will help you gain a basic
understanding of the MPE/iX system.

HP ALLBASE/4GL Applications

An application is a software solution that is designed to achieve a
specific result. For example, an application may be an accounts payable
module or an accounts receivable module that forms part of an accounting
system. Another typical application could be a spare parts inventory
system. An application could be designed for a highly specific purpose,
such as analyzing data recorded by an automated instrumentation system.

An HP ALLBASE/4GL application is written in the HP ALLBASE/4GL language
to run on an HP ALLBASE/4GL system.

This manual assumes you have at least one HP ALLBASE/4GL application
loaded on your system, and you are ready to start using the application.

Since your application may not have been supplied by Hewlett-Packard,
this manual can't tell you how to use the application, or what it does.
