HP ALLBASE/4GL Developer Reference Manual Vol. 1

HP TurboIMAGE/iX Names

You may define names for the following HP TurboIMAGE/iX items from within
HP ALLBASE/4GL:

   *   Data set names.

   * Field specification (data item) names.

   * Database names (within the administrator application).

HP TurboIMAGE/iX accepts all legal HP ALLBASE/4GL characters, except
underscores (_). In addition to HP ALLBASE/4GL characters, the following
characters may be used in HP TurboIMAGE/iX names:

           +, -, *, /, ?, ', #,  %, &, and @.

These characters cannot be used for any HP ALLBASE/4GL names, such as the
file name and the field specification name. However, all legal HP
TurboIMAGE/iX characters may be used for defining external HP
TurboIMAGE/iX names, such as the Schema Data Set Name field on the
file/SQL table definition screen, and the Data Item Name field on the
data manager specific field attributes screen.

HP ALLBASE/4GL automatically changes lowercase characters in names to
uppercase when communicating with HP TurboIMAGE/iX.

NOTE Since HP ALLBASE/4GL is case sensitive, and HP TurboIMAGE/iX is not, it is possible for several different HP ALLBASE/4GL names to refer to the same HP TurboIMAGE/iX item. For example, F-order and F-Order are different within HP ALLBASE/4GL, but both map to the HP TurboIMAGE/iX data set name ORDER.
