Appendix B  System Requirement Details

System Requirement Details

This chapter contains a list of the following hardware and software
requirements for RJE/XL subsystem operation:

 *  Remote processor

 *  Communications interface

 *  Modems

 *  Dedicated remote print station

 *  Autodial

NOTE It should be mentioned here that if $STDLIST is used as the output device for the RJOUT, RJLIST, and RJPUNCH commands, then the console cannot be used since RJE/XL uses the QUIESCIO function that does not work with the mux terminal drivers.
RJE/XL requires a minimum HP 3000 computer system configuration and a communications interface. You must arrange for the installation of telephone lines and modems. Remote Processor The remote processor can be any of the following: * A computer that supports an IBM 2780 Data Transmission Terminal or IBM 3780 Data Communications Terminal. * An IBM 2780 or IBM 3780. * Another HP 3000 computer system that is also using the RJE/XL subsystem. Communications Interface RJE/XL operation requires the existence of a communications interface in your HP 3000 computer. The RJE/XL interface is the Programmable Serial Interface (PSI) controller. Modems The following modems or their equivalents may be used for RJE/XL: RJE/XL will support all modems supported by RJE/V: * Bell System Type 201C Data Set * Bell System Type 208A Data Set * Bell System Type 208B Data Set * Bell System Type 209A Data Set * Bell Dataphone II 2024A * Bell Dataphone II 2048A * Bell Dataphone II 2096A * Bell 500B Data Service Unit * HP32730A RJE/XL also supports the following modems and their equivalents: * AT&T 2248 (4800 bps, dial) * AJ 9631-SA (9600 bps, dial) * CODEX 5208R (with 2207 autodial unit (4800 bps, dial)) * CODEX 2640 (19.2K bps, leased line) * CODEX 2620 (4800 bps, leased line) * DYNATECH LDM-22 (19.2K bps, short haul) * AT&T Dataphone II DIGITAL 2500 (56K bps, V.35) * AT&T 2296 (9600 bps, dial) Equivalent means that the modems operate in a manner identical to the modems listed. Compatible modems are not necessarily equivalent, but will usually operate correctly with the above modems.
NOTE All modems listed above should be configured for internal timing. Most factory default options for modems should work with the RJE/XL BSC link. The remote modem should be configured in a manner compatible with the local modem.
