IBM 2780 and IBM 3780 Features
This section lists the features of the IBM 2780 Data Transmission
Terminals and the IBM 3780 Data Communication Terminal.
IBM 2780 Data Transmission Terminal
The IBM 2780 Data Transmission Terminal is an IBM remote batch processing
terminal that uses IBM Binary Synchronous Communications line protocol
(BSC). It has the capacity to:
* Transmit or receive in ASCII, EBCDIC or 6-bit transcode.
* Accept horizontal tabulation codes (optional).
* Accept vertical forms control codes.
* Transmit or receive data in the transparent mode.
* Truncate short records.
* Transmit or receive blocked data.
IBM 3780 Data Communication Terminal
Like the IBM 2780, the IBM 3780 Data Communication Terminal is a control
unit with a set of input and output devices. It has the capacity to:
* Transmit or receive in ASCII or EBCDIC.
* Accept horizontal tabulation codes.
* Accept vertical forms control codes.
* Transmit or receive data in the transparent mode.
* Truncate short records.
* Compress blank fields in data.
* Transmit or receive blocked data.
* Interleave data passed between the communications line and
input/output devices through the use of two 512-byte buffers, thereby
increasing overall transmission efficiency.
* Generate Wait-before-transmit ACKnowledgement (WACK) and Temporary
Text Delay (TTD) control character sequences when it is temporarily
unable to transmit or receive data.
For a detailed description of the IBM 3780, refer to Component
Information for the IBM 3780 Data Communication Terminal.
