Introducing FDDI 3000/iX Network Link

Overview

FDDI 3000/iX (J2245A) is a high-speed network link that provides HP 3000
Series 900 systems that have HP-PB (HP Precision Bus, also known as NIO)
backplanes, with a single-attach connection to a Fiber Distributed Data
Interface (FDDI) network. The FDDI adapter connects to the 100 MB/sec,
dual counter-rotating ring network through any third-party FDDI
concentrator meeting the ISO 9314 FDDI standards.

FDDI 3000/iX takes advantage of the single-attach solution verses
dual-attach by providing network reliability, link level fault isolation,
modular and expandable design, easy station insertion and removal, and
local management capability.

FDDI 3000/iX provides an evolutionary path for HP 3000 customers needing
increased backbone network capacity. It is ideal for applications
needing to regularly transfer multi-megabyte files. These networks can
act as backbones to Ethernet 802.3 and Token Ring 802.5 networks using
routers for the necessary protocol conversion. FDDI 3000/iX provides
more resources to more systems due to the greater capacity available over
802.3 and 802.5.

FDDI 3000/iX Network Link includes the FDDI network adapter, FDDI driver,
TCP/IP Transport, and hardware and software product manuals.

Product Features

The product features include:

   * Support of ARPA, NS, LAN Manager/iX over TCP/IP, NFS, NetIPC, and
       a subset of 4.3 BSD Sockets

   * Tools compatible with those of ThinLAN and Token Ring 3000/iX

   *   Online diagnostics (LANPBA)

   * Hardware self-test with LED display

   *   Software configurable with NMMGR

   * Compatible with the ISO 9314 standard

   * Uses 4500 byte packet sizes verses 1500 bytes for 802.3

   * Displays the FDDI ring station-address in canonical format

   * Provides high-speed data transmission at 100 Megabytes over
       multi-mode MIC-terminated fiberoptic cabling

   * Supports a maximum cable length of 200 km with a 2 km maximum
       between the concentrator and single-attach station
