New Magneto Optical Disk Drive by Larry Bain Commercial Systems Division A newly designed high performance Magneto Optical Disk Drive featuring "double data capacity" and improved performance is now available on the HP 3000. The new double-density drive is now an option in the family of HP Magneto Optical Libraries supported by MPE. This drive can use a new double-density MO media to offer increased storage capacities with the inherently long shelf life and rugged storage media offered by Magneto Optical technology. Improvements in the double-density drive over its predecessor include twice the storage capacity (1.2 GB per media), a 1.6 time faster sustained transfer rate (1.6 Mbytes/sec read, 0.8 Mbytes/sec write), along with a larger internal read/write cache and improved reliability. This drvie is also backwardly compatible with media written by the single-density product. The new double-density drive will initially be supported on MPE as the internal drive mechanism for the C1700T and the C1708T Magneto Optical Libraries.
