Learning to Manage Your MPE 5.0 System
The addition of POSIX functionality to MPE may raise some questions in
the minds of MPE system managers. What impact does POSIX have on the way
I manage my HP 3000? Do I need special training? What about my
operators and programmers? What's a "POSIX directory?" How do I create
one? How do I know what my users are doing with POSIX directories?
The answers to many of these questions can be found in the POSIX
Computer-Based Training program that is bundled with your MPE/iX 5.0
system. The primary objective of this course is to help you build on
your existing MPE system management skills, so that you can manage the
Hierarchical File System (HFS) which is part of MPE/iX Release 5.0. The
HFS provides a very flexible framework in which to keep your application
files and programs. The training explains how you can build upon the
system management skills that you already have to keep track of this new
framework.
The POSIX Computer-Based Training program is installed in the SYS account
when you install release 5.0 of MPE/iX. To take the training, all you
need to do is logon to your HP 3000 then type:
:POSIXCBT.LSN.SYS
The command file automatically starts the training program for you. You
are presented with a menu of all the topics covered in the course. We
estimate that it will take no more than 4-5 hours to complete the entire
course. There are no other course materials--the program is entirely
self-contained.
To successfully view the material in this course, you must be using an HP
terminal such as an HP 700/92 or HP2392, or a terminal emulator that is
compatible with these devices (such as AdvanceLink or Reflections).
