Whisper Technology and the Year 2000
This document defines the position of Whisper Technology
regarding the upcoming Year 2000 and any impact this may have on
Whisper Technology Software. If after reading this document you
have any questions please contact

Summary
Assuming that both the Server and PC Operating Systems
are Year 2000 compliant, Whisper Technology expect all Whisper
Technology software to work correctly in the Year 2000. With the
exception of the situations described below, Whisper Technology
software does not use or store any date or time fields.
Whisper Technology Year 2000 Compliance Statement
To the best of our knowledge, Whisper Technology
software will accurately determine chronological dates, and
correctly perform all calculations based on such dates (including,
calculating, comparing and manipulating dates between twentieth
and twenty-first centuries, and leap year calculations) providing
all other hardware and software used in conjunction with Whisper
Technology software is Year 2000 compliant.
This document does not constitute a warranty of any kind
by Whisper Technology and does not extended the terms of any
existing warranty. This compliance statement does not apply to
product features customizable by the user or any third-party
products used in conjunction with Whisper Technology Products.
Whisper Programmer Studio
Whisper Programmer Studio is a development tool which
does not use or store any date or time fields, other than the two
specific instances below:
1. Whisper Programmer Studio does some basic checks to avoid a user saving and
overwriting a file that has subsequently been modified by another user. In order
to do this it does the following. When opening a file for editing, Programmer
Studio requests the file's last modified date/time from the Server Operating
System. When saving an edited file, Programmer Studio again requests the file's
last modified date/time from the Server Operating System and checks this against
the value obtained on originally opening the file. If these values are the same
(i.e. the file has not been modified by someone else whilst you have been
editing it), the file save continues. If these values are not the same, a dialog
box is displayed showing both of the date/time details and warning that the file
may have been modified by someone else. The dialog box gives you the option to
continue with the file save, or to cancel. If the Server Operating System is
Year 2000 compliant then there will not be an issue with this. Even if the
Server Operating System is not Year 2000 compliant, Programmer Studio will
behave the same with the only issue being that the two date/time details
displayed in the warning dialog box may be invalid.
2. Non-registered users are allowed to evaluate Programmer Studio for 30 days.
After this 30 day period has expired, additional "reminder" screens will
occasionally appear to remind the user to register the copy. In order to track
this we do the following. When using a non-registered copy of Programmer Studio
for the first time, Programmer Studio will query the date from the PC Operating
System and note this. On subsequent use of a non-registered copy, Programmer
Studio will check the PC Operating System date and, if this date is greater than
30 days from the date of first use, Programmer Studio will occasionally display
these "reminder" screens. As long as the PC Operating System is Year 2000
compliant there will be no Year 2000 problems with this mechanism. Please note
that if the copy is a registered copy, then no date checks are done, and there
is no dependency on the PC Operating System being Year 200 compliant.
Whisper FTP Plus
Whisper FTP Plus does not use or store any date or time
fields, other than the three specific instances below:
1. When displaying file information on date and times, Whisper FTP Plus presents
to the user what it receives from the Server. If the Server sends correct
information, Whisper FTP Plus will display this correctly.
2. Whisper FTP Plus does some basic checks to prevent a user saving and
overwriting a file that has subsequently been modified by another user. In order
to do this it does the following. When opening a file for editing, FTP Plus
requests the file's last modified date/time from the Server Operating System.
When saving an edited file, FTP Plus again requests the file's last modified
date/time from the Server Operating System and checks this against the value
obtained on originally opening the file. If these values are the same (i.e. the
file has not been modified by someone else whilst you have been editing it), the
file save continues. If these values are not the same, a dialog box is displayed
showing both of the date/time details and warning that the file may have been
modified by someone else. The dialog box gives you the option to continue with
the file save, or to cancel. If the Server Operating System is Year 2000
compliant then there will not be any problem with this. Even if the Server
Operating System is not Year 2000 compliant, FTP Plus will behave the same with
the only issue being that the two date/time details displayed in the warning
dialog box may be invalid.
3. Non-registered users are allowed to evaluate FTP Plus for 30 days. After this
30 day period has expired, additional "reminder" screens will occasionally
appear to remind the user to register the copy. In order to track this we do the
following. When using a non-registered copy of FTP Plus for the first time, FTP
Plus will query the date from the PC Operating System and note this. On
subsequent use of a non-registered copy, FTP Plus will check the PC Operating
System date and, if this date is greater than 30 days from the date of first
use, FTP Plus will occasionally display these "reminder" screens. As long as the
PC Operating System is Year 2000 compliant there will be no Year 2000 problems
with this mechanism. Please note that if the copy is a registered copy, then no
date checks are done, and there is no dependency on the PC Operating System
being Year 200 compliant.
