Allegro: Disk Recovery

Allegro Consultants, Inc., offers a disk drive recovery service where we attempt to recover files from damaged disk drives.

We've developed an in-house tool to aid in recovery attempts. The tool requires knowledge of the internal structure of the file system, directory, and Label Table, and is not separately available.

In cases where the disk drive(s) are mostly working (e.g., with a few hard errors), we can usually recover nearly all of the files from the drive. In cases where the disk drive is not readable, a third-party data recovery service will have to be used to extract the raw bits from the disk drive before we can attempt recovery. Note that most data recovery services have no software for (or knowledge of) the MPE/iX file system. As such, they will usually have to be asked to do a "raw" recovery of the drive rather than a file-oriented recovery.

Allegro staff has recovered files from a number of disk drives, and can quickly evaluate how successful a new recovery task is likely to be.
